Rail Strikes: Worcester Trades Union Council back RMT action as railway chiefs warn of reduced weekend service

Worcester Editorial 24th Jun, 2022   0

TRADE unionists in Worcester have rallied union members and city residents to join them in supporting RMT workers.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the last of three scheduled walk outs this week by the RMT in a row over pay and potential job losses.

WTUC officials have echoed calls from the RMT in pushing for a decent and safe rail system and say it should be a system which ‘operates for the benefit of people, the needs of society and our environment – not for private profit’.

Members will join the RMT picket outside Shrub Hill Station tomorrow at 11am.

The calls come as West Midlands Railway warn normal service on the city’s railways is unlikely to resume until Monday (June 27).

Passengers are again being urged to only travel by rail if necessary tomorrow (Saturday) as industrial action continues to impact services.

A very limited train service will be in operation and those services which do run will operate between 7.30am and 6.30pm only, meaning final departures for longer-distance journeys such as Birmingham-London will be mid-afternoon.

Due to planned engineering works no services will run from either Moor Street or Snow Hill stations in Birmingham on Saturday.

On Sunday (June 26) morning services will start later than usual as the strike action means some trains will not be in the right places overnight. Passengers are urged to check their train is running before travelling.
