New Road closing this evening as flood contraflow introduced

Worcester Editorial 22nd Feb, 2022 Updated: 22nd Feb, 2022   0

WORCESTER’s New Road will be closed to motorists from 7.15pm this evening (Tuesday) to allow for the contraflow system to be installed.

The move aims to keep the road partially open in the face of the rising River Severn which is not due to peak in the city until at least tomorrow morning (Wednesday)

New Road will be closed in both directions for two hours and with Hylton Road also closed because of the high river levels, motorists are advised to use the Carrington Bridge or Holt Fleet bridge to cross river.

Worcester Bridge will remain open to pedestrians.

Anyone parked on Croft Road or the Cattlemarket is being wanted to move as a matter of urgency as flood waters have now spread over both car park
