RESIDENTS across Worcestershire are being reminded that hedge and tree cutting will start across the county in the coming weeks to coincide with bird nesting season which runs between March and August.
Although roadside hedges are the landowner’s responsibility, Worcestershire County Council manages 30.5miles of hedges in the interest of safety, for example keeping footpaths clear and maintaining good visibility for road users.
Coun Alan Amos, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport said: “It is important for us to balance maintaining access and visibility whilst avoiding sensitive times of year for plants and wildlife.
“However, residents and landowners are responsible for their own trees and hedges, particularly if they are overhanging the road or pavement.
“So, we would like to remind people that now is a good time to prune because there is less foliage and birds are yet to nest.”
People can visit worcestershire.gov.uk/OnlineReporting to report any shrubbery causing an obstruction or visibility issue to pavements, footpaths, road, street signs and lamp posts.
Hedge and tree clippings can be taken to any of Worcestershire’s Household Recycling Centre if they are not signed up to a local garden waste collection service with their district, borough or city council.
