Worcester in top 20 of best UK cities to raise a baby but Coventry bottom

Worcester Editorial 8th Nov, 2021   0

THERE’S so much to think about when you’re expecting a baby – from buying the cot, nappies, pram, and maybe even a doll’s pram for your child to play with.

However, there’s more to consider than just toys and baby clothes, what about the city you live in? It’s no secret that some areas are more family-friendly than others, but how do you choose between them and select the best place for you and your kids to live?

Play Like Mum compared the cost of childcare, safety, number of child-friendly attractions and restaurants and the number of children in the area, to reveal the UK’s top baby-raising cities.

And it was good news for Worcester which came 14th out of the 42 cities surveyed to raise a baby but bad news for Coventry which came bottom of the pile.

According to the survey, the average cost of childcare in the city is £520 a month, placing it third in the list behind Plymouth and Leicester compared to £977 a month in Coventry.

There are 12 child-friendly restaurants per 10,000 people in Worcester according to the survey compared to just five in Coventry with neither city making the top 10 in this section.

To discover the most pram-friendly city in the UK, each city was ranked by the number of pram-accessible parks, shops, toilets with baby-changing facilities and children’s play areas per 10,000 residents.

Worcester returns to the top 10 in this section with a score of 3.05 out of 10 to finish seventh, well behind Westminster with score of 7.59. Coventry in comparison scored just 1.27

Worcester finished in the middle of the pack when it comes to the safest city to raise a baby with a score of 53.35, well ahead of Coventry on 31.2
