WORK to bring full fibre connectivity within reach of almost every home and business in Worcester has now begun, with CityFibre breaking ground on London Road.
The UK’s largest independent full fibre platform is investing £21million in a city-wide broadband network which will future-proof Worcester’s digital needs for generations to come.
Redhill, Whittington and South Warndon are the next areas in line for construction. Each area will usually take a few weeks to complete, however, construction teams will typically only be outside each home for two to three days and CityFibre will be in touch by post ahead of any work starting.
Neal Wright, CityFibre’s city manager for Worcester, said: “Once Worcester’s digital infrastructure rollout is complete, it can fully reap the benefits of green innovations such as smart energy and waste management systems which are all underpinned by full fibre connectivity.
The overall project is expected to reach completion by early 2024 and the first services will go live for people to take advantage of much sooner.
Coun Alan Amos, cabinet member for Highways and Transport at Worcestershire County Council, said: “Whilst this upgraded provision will bring many benefits, my main concern is to ensure minimum disruption on the roads and pavements by getting the construction work completed efficiently and on time without overruns, and with high quality reinstatement of all the surfaces.
