Help celebrate 'back to normal' at this year's festival

Worcester Editorial 20th Mar, 2021   0

A RALLYING call has gone out for the city to come together and make the Worcester Festival a celebration of being back to normal following the pandemic.

Festival bosses have revealed their hope August’s event will back to its fun and vibrant self after it was moved to online only in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.

The landmark event on the city’s summer events calendar typically sees thousands of visitors flock to the Faithful City to enjoy everything from marching bands, to arts and crafts, fêtes, theatre productions and the spectacular closing fireworks display.

Although Prime Minister Boris Johnson has offered June 21 as the earliest date for a vast number of restrictions to be lifted, festival chiefs have vowed the 19th version of the popular event will go ahead.

Live and virtual events are welcomed and organisers hope businesses and local people will get creative, be innovative and think outside the box.

Restaurants are being encouraged to offer a special ‘Worcester Festival’ menu, or cocktail, or a special Worcester Festival deal while pubs are being asked to put on a quiz or a music night or a talent.

Festival director Chris Jaeger said: “There are so many advantages to being part of the Worcester Festival, including the huge amount of generic advertising and hype from which you can benefit, and you will be taking part in one of the largest events in Worcestershire.

“Covid-19 stopped so many events in the last year, but it certainly didn’t stop the Worcester Festival and it won’t stop us this year should the road map get a little off course.

“We want 2021’s Worcester Festival to be a beacon of hope and fun for the people of Worcester and hopefully be a chance for us all to celebrate getting through this. So come and get involved!

Online registration for this year’s Worcester Festival is now open.
