A LOCAL art therapist is running free, online sessions designed to improve the wellbeing of those living with mental health issues in Worcestershire.
Creating Space founder Claire Hilton is running the sessions in partnership with Worcester Community Action to enable people to get creative with whatever they have around them in their homes.
The sessions are designed for residents to meet virtually others experiencing similar restrictions to their lives, reducing loneliness and isolation by connecting them with others to help inspire and motivate their work.
“People are worried about their health and the health of those close to them, and their finances,” she said.
“They might also be feeling bored, frustrated and lonely. All of this can take a significant toll on their mental wellbeing.”
“We provide a safe and non-judgemental space where people can express their feelings though creativity.
“There is no right or wrong, or success or failure. We develop the natural skills and interests of our participants and recognise we are all in this together,” she added.
The sessions had been running at Worcester Arts Workshop until it closed last September but Claire has worked with Worcester Community Action to keep them going using funding from Openbox Foundation.
“We will deliver 25 more weeks of on-line sessions independently, which we will split into five terms of five weeks. The grant funding means that the sessions are free for those who wish to attend them, although spaces are limited,” Claire added.
