Efficiency projects are boosted

Worcester Editorial 11th Mar, 2021   0

A GRANT worth £885,000 has been secured by Worcestershire County Council for investment into efficiency and renewable energy projects.

The grant funding, from Salix Finance’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, will see lighting and glazing upgrades, insulation, draft proofing and installation of variable speed drives and solar PV arrays at a number of council sites in the county.

Eleven council sites will benefit from the grant, including County Hall, Wildwood, County Enterprises, Fairfield Centre & Warndon Library, Wendron Centre and Waseley Hills Country Park, as well as the libraries in Kidderminster, Evesham, Tenbury, Droitwich and Malvern.

Coun Tony Miller, cabinet member with responsibility for environment, said: “I am delighted to welcome this grant funding from Salix.

“It will help to deliver projects which will support our zero-carbon objectives in line with the recently approved Net Zero Carbon Plan.

“We remain dedicated to our pledge to tackle climate change. This funding is so valuable in helping us in the right direction.”

The Net Zero Carbon Plan was approved in October and shows how the authority will tackle climate change and achieve its pledge of being carbon-neutral by 2050, aligning with central government’s target.
