Volunteer army is ready for roll out

MORE than 170 volunteers have signed up to the County Council’s Here2Help service since the start of the year.

And over three quarters of those volunteers have said they will assist with the Covid-19 vaccination roll out.

Here2Help volunteers are being asked to support with symptom checking, conducting temperature checks, as well as directing and monitoring patients after they receive the jab at vaccination clinics.

County Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for communities, said: “We’ve seen a surge in the number of people volunteering in the first few weeks of this year which is great to see.

“The Covid vaccination programme is one of the biggest and most anticipated immunisation campaigns in history, so I’m not surprised people want to get involved.

“A big thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far.”

The council is looking for volunteers who are aged under 70, not medically vulnerable and not instructed

to get a free NHS flu jab on medical grounds.

Council staff are working side by side with Clinical Commissioning Groups and Primary Care Networks to deliver the vaccination programme.

Nicky Redshaw, PCN Operations Manager at Worcester City Primary Care Network, said: “We’re grateful to every single one of the volunteers who’ve joined us and we look forward to continuing our work with them as this programme continues.”

Almost 4,600 people have contacted Here2Help asking for support since it was launched in March 2020.

The service’s opening hours remain Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm, and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.

Here2Help is closed over weekends and bank holidays.

To sign up for help, go to the Here2Help website and complete the online form under the ‘register as a volunteer’ section.
