PCC reaffirms support for vital support services

CHILDREN and young people exposed to sexual exploitation will continue to receive specialist support thanks to a funding boost.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police, John Campion, has recommissioned the Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and Independent Sexual Violence Adviser (ISVA) services for at least another year.

They provide invaluable support to those who have been affected by the crime.

This includes direct support to victims under the age of 18, or 24 if they have additional needs, as well as their families.

An early intervention and prevention programme across Worcestershire will also be available.

The PCC said tackling child exploitation, and the wider context of child criminal exploitation, are key priorities for the force.

“It is so important young people are receiving all the support they can get,” said Mr Campion.

“A key part of this project is to identify those at risk and to educate them on the signs before it’s too late.

“However, it’s also about giving victims the support to help them cope and recover.

“A key reason the West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre was chosen to deliver this important service is because the team already has a vast amount of experience in this area of work.

“I look forward to working with them and other partners to continue the work in protecting the children and young people in our communities.”
