COUNTY council highways chiefs have begun work on five new road crossings across the county including one in Worcester.

New zebra crossings are being installed at each of the five locations to improve pedestrian safety and provide better access to local amenities.

Work on the first two crossings on Brickfields Road, Worcester and Hewell Road, Redditch began this week.

Coun Alan Amos, cabinet member for Highways, said: “I’m pleased work is now underway to install these crossings.

“We continually monitor areas across the county to see if any upgrades are needed to improve safety and access within residential settings. These five locations were all highlighted as needing extra provision for people to cross the road safely and we have acted on that.”

Works on the next two crossings will begin on Monday, August 24. These will be located on Tolladine Road, Worcester and on Station Road, Pershore.

The position of the new crossing on Tolladine Road will be just east of the junction with Kenwood Avenue and will include some preparatory street lighting work in the area, week commencing Monday 17th August.

The new Station Road crossing will be positioned between Gig Bridge Lane and Queen Elizabeth Drive.

Both sets of works will require temporary traffic lights and the Station Road works will require some temporary road closures for which signage showing the diversion will be in place.
