Pump Street next in line for improvements

Rob George 30th May, 2020   0

BUILDING on the success of the works on The Shambles, Pump Street is next in line to see improvements, as part of Worcestershire County Council’s Town Centre Improvement Programme.

Over recent weeks, Severn Trent Water has been onsite in the city, making improvements to their network.

Following this, the county council programme of works will begin on Monday, June 22

The works will include the installation of new footways and trees, and clearer marking to differentiate areas for vehicles and pedestrians during delivery times.

This will ensure improved street aesthetics and pedestrian safety, with the aim of increasing footfall in the area.

Coun Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for Economy and Infrastructure, said: “It’s great that we’re now able to move forward with these works, during what is a much quieter time within the city centre.

“The aim of the works is to give a boost to the local economy by making it more attractive for businesses and drawing more people into visiting the area.

“The works will complement the improvements made in other areas of the city over the last few years. It’s another example of our Town Centre Improvement Programme which has been successful in other areas of the county too.”

The works are set to last for approximately 12 weeks and will be carried out in such a way as to minimise the impact on businesses and pedestrians, as much as possible.

The works will follow the Highway Sector’s Site Operating Procedures with regard to the control of Covid-19.

The plans for the programme of works have been put in place, working closely with Worcester City Council.

Letters will be delivered to local businesses and residents early next week.

More information about the work, including details of road closures, is available on the county council website at www.worcestershire.gov.uk/pumpstreet.
