CITY COUNCIL chiefs have fully re-opened both Astwood and St John’s cemeteries to visitors following revised guidance from the Secretary of State.
However all visitors to both cemeteries are asked to observe the social distance rules and remain at least two metres, or six feet, away from each other.
Both sites had been partially closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak except for funerals, burials and cremations which went ahead as normal. Social distancing rules mean only five mourners can attend services at Astwood Crematorium.
The Book of Condolence is open to be viewed at Astwood Crematorium, from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.
The move comes after Local Government Secretary Robert Jenrick confirmed parks and cemeteries must remain open and family can attend loved ones’ funerals.
Speaking during Saturday’s Number 10 Downing Street briefing, Mr Jenrick said funerals can go ahead with close family members present so they can say a ‘respectful goodbye’ to those they love.
A Worcester City Council spokesperon said: “We would like to thank people for their patience and understanding at this difficult time.”
