Salutes for NHS at Pride 2020

Worcester Editorial 18th Apr, 2020   0

ORGANISERS of Worcestershire Pride are set to show their appreciation for the NHS and key workers at this year’s event.

A minute’s silence for lives sadly lost to Coronavirus will be held at the start of the parade and a minute’s clap will be held to celebrate key workers and the NHS during the main event itself.

After an incredibly successful Worcestershire Pride 2019, the committee are excited to be hosting their fourth LGBT+ Pride festival this September. Last year’s event saw over 1,000 people participate in the parade alone, with an estimated 2,000 people entering the festival site in Worcester.

Planning for the 2020 Pride is still very much going ahead, with the team meeting online regularly to comply with social distancing regulations. This year’s event on September 19 promises to be even bigger and better as it moves into Copenhagen Street car park, with the iconic backdrop of Worcester Cathedral.

Chairman Mathew Skilbeck said: “Worcestershire Pride is all about the community. After seeing so many prides postponed or cancelled this year, we are hoping now more than ever we will get the support we need to make this event happen and in return we can show our support for the people who have kept this country going.”

The team are still taking applications for traders, artists and sponsors so please get in touch via Pride’s social media channels if you would like to get involved.
