A DOCTOR from Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (WAHT) has been selected for a prestigious national development scheme.
Speciality anaesthesia trainee, Dr Brendan Spooner started the National Medical Director’s Fellowship in leadership and management back in September.
The scheme provides doctors in training with a unique opportunity to spend 12 months outside of clinical practice to develop their skills in leadership, management, strategy, project management, and health policy.
Clinical fellows have the opportunity to work with senior leaders to fast track their leadership skills and experience in a diverse range of organisations.
The participating organisations have the opportunity to be part of a prestigious scheme to develop a growing pool of future medical leaders who will hopefully go on to shape healthcare in this country.
“My motivation for doing this was to be as effective as I can be as a doctor and I believe I needed to develop my leadership and management skills further to so I can help make the NHS a better place for patients and staff,” said Dr Spooner.
Clinical Director of Anaesthetics at WAHT, Dr Joanna Marriott, said: “We’re extremely proud of Brendan for being selected for such a prestigious scheme. We look forward to him sharing what he has learnt and how this can be used to provide the best services for our patients and leadership for our staff.”
