Worcester Bridge now open to traffic in and out of city

Worcester Editorial 26th Feb, 2020 Updated: 27th Feb, 2020   0

WORCESTER Bridge has re-opened fully and the free shuttle bus has come to an end after river levels fell enough for highways chiefs to lift restrictions.

Flood warnings remain in place for the length of the Severn through Worcestershire while Hylton Road, Croft Road and the Cattlemarket have all succumb to the rising water levels.

First Worcester have advised the 144/144A/36 and 37 are currently still running from Foregate Street with other city services from St Nicholas Street.

Worcestershire’s New Road home remains underwater with levels at the ground showing little signs of retreating.

According to the Environment Agency, this latest flood is the fifth time river levels have been recorded at five metres and above at Diglis in the last two decades.

Before then the previous five instances took 135 years.
