Merry Christmas to everyone in Worcester and best wishes for a wonderful end to the year.
It was a great honour to be able to read a lesson at our beautiful Cathedral surrounded by thousands of years of history and the wonderful music of the choir. Whilst we celebrate Christmas and what a wonderful place Worcester is to enjoy it, we should say a huge thank you to those who will be working over the festive period in our hospitals and our emergency services, those providing care and those serving overseas on behalf of our country.
It’s been an honour to be back in Parliament as Worcester’s MP and I’ve been touched by the number of people who have stopped me in the street whilst I was doing my Christmas shopping to say congratulations. It has been a busy few weeks since the election, with the state opening of a new Parliament, swearing in as MP for the fourth time and then voting to secure the withdrawal agreement and to re-elect the new Speaker so the new Parliament can move the country forward.
I’ve also been meeting Ministers to press for better services on the Birmingham Line and more investment in our hospital.
One of my last letters before Christmas was to support Andy Street’s call for a deadline for West Midlands Rail to improve their service and I will be following up on this in the New Year. I am looking forward to what will hopefully be a quiet few days of family time before returning to the fray.
I hope everyone in Worcester gets the Christmas break they deserve and remembers to thank those who are working to keep us all safe.
