Moor than just a cuppa offered

Worcester Editorial 2nd Dec, 2019   0

A FRIENDLY face will be on offer during the festive season thanks to a canal boat cafe moored at Worcester’s Diglis Basin.

Cafe Afloat was the brainchild of Jacqui Taylor and her brother Alan who realised there was not much for the basin’s visitors to do.

Jacqui had been living on her first boat for two years when she decided to turn it into a floating cafe.

People drop in for a coffee, sandwich and a chat and her son Chris looks after the day-to-day running of the cafe producing food with a smile.

The cafe is also environmentally friendly and has a ‘Plastic Free’ certificate.

Jacqui originally worked as a youth and community worker but she wanted to be on the water more.

Her work meant she would be on dry land at 8am every day.

After she went through a divorce she decided to live on the boat.

She said: “Luckily I found the right boat at the right time.

“I wouldn’t go back to living on land now.

“We have customers coming in to socialise and people who are on their own meeting up with other like-minded people.”

She is hoping people will head down to Cafe Afloat and be part of its ever-growing community.
