COMMEMORATIONS to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice will see the Faithful City fall silent this weekend.
Remembrance Sunday (November 10) will feature with the traditional Armistice service at Worcester Cathedral from 10am before a wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial.
This will incorporate the two minutes’ silence at 11am, which will end with the firing of a gun, followed by the playing of the Last Post.
A procession to the Guildhall where the Lord Lieutenant Lt Col Patrick Holcroft LVO OBE and the Mayor of Worcester Coun Allah Ditta will take the salute as the Remembrance parade marches past will follow.
Other organisations involved in Worcester’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations include contingents from 214 Battery Royal Artillery; Royal British Legion; Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association; Navy, Army and Air Force Cadets; West Mercia Police; St John’s Ambulance; the Scouts and Guides.
Coun Ditta said the commemorations were an opportunity to remember all those who had given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today, both in the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts worldwide.
“This will be a solemn, important and moving ceremony to remember the many people who have fallen to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. I would encourage citizens of Worcester to attend,” he said.
The service will be open to the public and it is hoped that large numbers of Worcester people will join the wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial.
Road closures in the city centre will be in place to accommodate the parade and the War Memorial ceremony.
