A POIGNANT poppy drop outside Worcester’s Guildhall will again be at the heart of the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Mayor of Worcester Coun Allah Ditta will be joined by members of the Royal British Legion to launch the fund-raiser and commemoration of all the fallen on Saturday (October 26).

City residents are encouraged to go along to the poignant event, which will start at 10.25pm and see standard bearers and cadets gathering outside the Guildhall gates before a poppy drop and two minutes’ silence.

Prayers will be led by the Royal British Legion’s Worcestershire Chaplain, the Rev Peter Davies, and the Last Post will be played.

The event marks the start of the annual Poppy Appeal in Worcestershire, raising funds for the welfare of Armed

Forces members and supporting the Royal British Legion’s campaign work.

“It will be a great honour to play a part in the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal. All of us owe a debt of thanks to our Armed Forces and veterans, and I would like to encourage city residents to come along to support this important and moving event,” Coun Ditta said.

The appeal launch at the Guildhall will be attended by Angela Brinton, Royal British Legion County Patron; Brigadier Roger Brunt, county president and David Waldron, county chairman.

The Polish Heritage Society will be present on the day and bugler Geoff Sansome will perform the Last Post and the Revielle.
