A WORCESTER care home will open its doors to the community for an afternoon of tea and entertainment.

Latimer Court will welcome visitors to an open day on Saturday (October 19) from 10am to 4pm.

As well as tea and home-made cakes, visitors will have the chance to meet the team and take a tour of the home.

LONG-SERVING members of Worcester’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society were honoured at an awards ceremony.

The society was founded in 1973 and has seen local faces performing the various Gilbert and Sullivan operettas throughout Worcestershire.

Members were honoured for 10, 20 or 30 years of service with certificates and badges while founder member Beryl Davis was honoured with a 30+ years award and a cake to mark her 90th birthday.

The group’s next show will be the ‘Yeoman of the Guard’ at Droitwich’s Norbury Theatre from November 5 to 9.

A UNIQUE production of Wagner’s ‘Das Rheingold’ is on its way to Worcester Cathedral next Friday (October 25).

The idea behind Tarnhelm Opera’s production is to bring a complete performance of this, the first opera in the Ring Cycle to the imposing settings of landmark buildings which may never have resounded to Wagner’s music before.

Audiences will surely be drawn in by the drama of Wagner’s shortest work which will last just over two hours without an interval.
