Flood warning issued as heavy rain sweeps into city

A FLOOD warning has been issued after the Met Office warned of further heavy rain for the city in the coming hours

After a brief interlude of sunshine this morning the rain is forecast to be heavy from now until around 9pm tonight (Monday)

The rain is then set to ease off but continue until midnight.

The Met Office added homes and businesses could be at risk of flash flooding and journey times could take longer because of the impact on roads, buses and trains.

River levels are forecast to rise at Diglis as a result of the heavy rain.

Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected from after midnight.

Flooding could affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the river from Highley to Tewkesbury while in Worcester flooding may affect South Quay, Diglis Parade and the Hylton Road towpath.

Flooding from drains may also be affecting the racecourse and the County Cricket ground on New Road.

River levels are expected to rise until Wednesday (October 2) and Environment Agency chiefs are monitoring the situation.
