A CLIMATE change campaigner is urging schools, churches, community organisations, local authorities and businesses to fly flags every Friday to highlight global warming.
David Train was speaking at an inaugural ‘raising and striking’ at Bromsgrove District Council which has become the first authority in the world to take part in the drive.
Some organisations in the Faithful City have already signed up, including Worcester Cathedral and the University of Worcester.
Castle Bromley School in Malvern also flies the flag.
The idea is the chosen two sea signalling flags are raised every Friday morning and lowered at the end of that day.
The first flag ‘W’ is flown when urgent medical attention is needed and the other one ‘E’ is raised when a vessel needs to change course.
Mr Train said the flags epitomised the current climate emergency the world was facing and added he hoped more people and organisations would joined the campaign.
“It would be great if they could be flown above Parliament and at other key buildings up and down the country and beyond.
“If we can bring the country together in this common cause and common good – for humanity – then we can extend it around the world.”
Mr Train said it was better to ‘strike’ the flag rather than ‘strike’ from school or work and cause unwanted disruption.
