Bikes and boats boost charities

Worcester Editorial 27th Jul, 2019   0

A PAIR of city charities were given a welcome boost thanks to staff at a local private hospital who took to road and river to raise more than £3,300.

The team of 17 cyclists from Spire South Bank Hospital hit the road from Worcester to the Spire Hospital in Bristol while others stayed behind to clock up the miles on static bikes based in the hospital.

Then, with the road trip completed, 16 volunteers entered the famous Race the Dragon competition along the River Severn where they completed the route four times to boost the coffers.

All the money raised will be split between the Maggs Day Centre, which helps homeless in the city and beyond, the Worcester Snoezelen sensory centre in Turnpike Close and Spire Healthcare’s nominated charity, Tropical Health Education Trust (THET).

Hospital director Tom Ryder said: “Everyone went above and beyond to raise money and have a bit of fun at the same time. Supporting the local community where our patients and staff live and work is very important to us and I am delighted by the way things went.”
