City’s pop-up park brings mix of food, magic and yoga

A POP-up park will spring up in Cathedral Square for the summer, thanks to Worcester BID chiefs who hope it will be the perfect place for friends and family to relax.

Entry is free and there will be a packed programme of activities on offer from Worcester city centre businesses to keep everyone entertained, from picnics and story time for little ones, to yoga and gin for adults.

There’s also a feast of foodie fun on offer for the county’s gastronomes, including junior chefs.

Phoebe Dawson, chief executive of Worcester BID, said: “Worcester BID works hard to ensure that our city is a vibrant place to visit.”

“The Pop-up Park is a great initiative to bring people together and we’re delighted to offer a lively programme of events, supported by local businesses, that will bring friends and families to Worcester this summer.”

The magic starts this Saturday (July 6) as The Hive takes over the park.

Aspiring wizards and witches can take part in a special Harry Potter day from 11am to 3pm. The Sorting Hat will tell them which house they belong to, before taking part in some fantastic games.

The spectacular book-themed Worcester Carnival will then travel through the city, giving young magicians the best seats in the house to watch all the action.

More exciting activities are planned throughout the summer. In August, adults can get their ‘om’ on at ‘Yoga in the Park’ from Fitness for Less or enjoy a cheeky drink at ‘Gin in the Park’ from the Cosy Club from August 22 to 26.

Children can bring their teddies along for a picnic in the Pop-up Park with the Royal Porcelain Works, and Yo! Sushi is running a ‘Mini Ninja Sushi School’.

As well as the successful After Worc Feast, which hits the city on the first Thursday of the month, Worcester Food Festival returns on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28.

The streets will be packed with stalls selling delicious food and drinks to sample and take home and, new for this year, the Festival will hand over its kitchen to the talented Great British Bake Off chefs.

The Pop-up Park will be in place from Wednesday to Saturday, August 31.
