A COLOURFUL new addition has taken to the city’s busy streets with Worcester City Council introducing another electric vehicle to its fleet.
The five-seat fully electric Nissan e-NV200 people carrier will help transport waste collection staff and other council workers around the city as part of their daily routine to keep Worcester clean and green.
It replaces an old petrol car and is another contribution to the city council’s efforts to reduce its CO2 emissions.
Coun Joy Squires, chair of the council’s environment committee, said: “With a range of 120 miles, the new van is ideal for transporting staff between our Warndon depot and the city centre, and for getting extra crew members to help with waste collection rounds if additional support is needed.”
City council workers can use charging points at the Warndon depot and in the city centre to make sure the new vehicle and the council’s other four electric vans have enough juice to run on. However, the new people carrier’s braking system also helps to charge the battery, so it is expected to run for three or four days without needing a full charge.
