STRING trio Vertis Viols will be performing a programme of wonderful music from the late 16th to 18th centuries at Old St Martin’s in the Cornmarket on Sunday (June 23).
The programme includes viol consort music by Worcester’s own Thomas Tomkins, the great Tudor composer, who was organist of Worcester Cathedral from the end of 16th Century until the Civil War.
Tomkins lived at 9 College Green and a blue plague was installed on the house during the last Worcester Three Choirs Festival.
Along with works by Gibbons and Purcell, the consort is looking forward to performing a suite for three bass viols by the legendary French viola da gamba composer Marin Marais.
