Students have got reading covered

Worcester Editorial 12th Jun, 2019   0

STUDENTS from Bishop Perowne CE College were encouraged to show their love of reading with a book cover design competition.

Organised by the school’s Study Centre, students in years seven to 10 were asked to think about an idea for a book, then design a cover as if they had written it.

Fifty entries were received and the English department chose Ruby Richings and the front cover of her book ‘The Beauty Contest’, Summer Styles’ cover for ‘The Stars at Midnight’, Zeke Cross’ book cover ‘Commando, It’s a State of Mind’, and Nathan Reader’s design for ‘The Magic Picture’ as the four winners.

Each winner was rewarded with an art kit and chocolate treat.

Headteacher Mark Pollard, said: “With so many electronic distractions, it’s important to develop engaging ways to encourage children to maintain a love of books.

“This competition asked students to think of a story idea and design an engaging cover which would encourage their fellow students to read it.

“We received some fantastic entries; congratulations to the four winners.”
