YOUNG bookworms at Christopher Whitehead Language College welcomed award-winning novelist Sally Gardner into school for an inspirational talk.

The author has sold more than two million books in the UK and her novel ‘Maggot Moon’ won both the Costa Children’s Book Prize and the Carnegie Medal in 2013.

She gave an inspirational talk to Year 7 students about her books and her severe dyslexia and students had the opportunity to buy a book and to have it signed by Sally.

Deborah Stephenson, learning resource centre manager, said: “Sally has displayed such courage and resilience throughout her life and career.

“It is truly a marvelous example for our students to follow and a great day was had by all.”
