Duo inspired to go the extra miles to help out

Worcester Editorial 27th Apr, 2019   0

THE EXPERIENCES of a university friend battling bowel cancer has inspired a city duo to take to the streets to tackle the London Marathon and raise cash for a good cause.

Friends Kate Taylor and Sarah Minshull, will lace up their trainers and limber up for the 26.2mile marathon around some of the capital’s leading landmarks on tomorrow (Sunday) in honour of ‘inspirational’ Samantha Issacson.

Kate has been friends with Sam since their university days and the friendship has grown stronger during Sam’s battle with bowel cancer.

“Sam has been kicking cancer’s butt since she was diagnosed at the age of 25 with terminal bowel cancer,” Kate told the Observer.

“She’s now 29 and has recently finished her 80th bout of chemotherapy. For both Sarah and I the biggest challenge we could face is completing a marathon, so here goes!

“At Sam’s request we are thrilled to be joining the Bowel Cancer UK team and we hope you are inspired by Sam and our crazy antics leading up to, what will hopefully be a successful run on Sunday.”

The intrepid pair have pledged to raise £5,000 for Bowel Cancer UK and Sunday’s marathon will be the latest in a long list of fund-raising undertaken by the Worcestershire County Council employees since the turn of the year.

A successful charity quiz night was held in January and the duo are holding a Black Tie Charity Ball at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on May 11, which will include live music, a two course sit down meal and a silent auction.

Tickets cost £40 with all proceeds going to the charity. To find out more or to purchase tickets please call 07470 301731.

“We are asking people to kindly support our fundraising goal of £5,000 for Bowel Cancer UK, who are the UKs leading Bowel Cancer Charity. April is Bowel Cancer UK Awareness Month so there is no better time to support the charity,” Kate added.
