Flats to help homeless in line for award

Worcester Editorial 29th Mar, 2019   0

A SANSOME Place development which provides 10 flats for homeless people in the city has been shortlisted for HRH Prince Charles’ Patron’s Award.

Trustees at Worcester Municipal Charities are celebrating after the Almshouse Association informed them the homes at Sir Thomas White Court had been put forward for the honour.

Chairman Paul Griffith MBE welcomed the announcement and said it was a huge honour to have reached the final shortlist.

“I hope and the judges will be impressed with the Trustees’ remarkable achievement in a city, with an acknowledged problem of homelessness, and a serious shortage of flats for the single homeless.

The flats which were formally opened by Worcester MP Robin Walker MP and Mayor of Worcester Coun Jabba Riaz last November are the charity’s latest addition to its total now of 37 ‘affordable’ flats for the homeless, all created since 2013.

The final decision will be taken by Prince Charles himself.

Winners will receive a plaque and a certificate.
