GREEN-FINGERED volunteers are planting 200 new saplings in Cripplegate Park to improve air quality and to make sure the city centre remains clean and green for generations to come.
Members of Taskforce, a volunteer group which gives men with learning disabilities the chance to get involved with positive activities in the community, planted hawthorn, hazel, dogwood and blackthorn saplings in the park last week.
The group also carried out an extensive litter pick in the area.
Coun Joy Squires, chair of Worcester City Council’s environment committee, said: “I’d like to thank all the Taskforce volunteers for their help and support – they do fantastic work in Worcester parks and it’s very much appreciated.”
The new trees complement the 15 lime trees planted in 2018 to replace those which needed to be felled as a consequence of Worcestershire County Council’s flood alleviation work on New Road.
Nine standard trees were also planted in Bromwich Parade in February.
The planting has been made possible with support from national charity Trees for Cities and the Tesco Bags of Help community scheme.
