Youngsters bowled over at donation for Bertie the bus

Worcester Editorial 7th Mar, 2019   0

YOUNGSTERS at Fort Royal Community School were bowled over as the players and staff of Worcestershire County Cricket Club donated £1,000 to buy a seat on their brand new wheelchair-accessible minibus.

The Worcester school caters for pupils aged three to 11 who have physical and learning disabilities and the minibus will take the youngsters out into the community to access and enjoy a wide range of curriculum-based sporting and recreational activities.

Named ‘Bertie’ by the pupils, they proudly showed off their unique vehicle and highlighted its positive on their school lives as the Worcestershire county players took time out of the busy pre-season schedule to visit.

Pears skipper Joe Leach: “It was a humbling but great visit at Fort Royal Community school who are doing great things for children in the Worcestershire community.”

Bertie the minibus was donated by the Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading disability sports charity, and was made possible by fund-raising efforts of their supporters of the charity as well as the school’s own fund-raising efforts.
