Voices of Remembrance at Cathedral

Worcester Editorial 8th Nov, 2018   0

WORCESTER Cathedral will be the setting for a charity fund-raising concert blending Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra, the Worcester Cathedral Choir and the voices of 70 schoolchildren from across the county.

Voices of Remembrance is being held on Saturday (November 10) at 7.30pm and is the culmination of a special project which has been central to Worcestershire’s commemoration of the conflict.

The first half of the concert is made up of the haunting Hymn to the Fallen by John Williams from the film Saving Private Ryan, A Shropshire Lad by George Butterworth, a young English composer who died at the Battle of the Somme, and Remember Them by Laura Rossi.

In Remember Them, the WSO will accompany a choir of 70 children from the nine primary schools that comprise the Rivers CE Multi-Academy Trust.

Ms Rossi’s Voices of Remembrance, an orchestral and choral work featuring readings of World War One poetry, will fill the entire second half and the composer will be attending the event to introduce the performance and talk about her inspiration for writing the piece.
