Worcester Editorial 13th Jun, 2018   0

THE number of people out of work in Worcester and neighbouring Malvern has spiralled upwards.

In Worcester the unemployment figure has risen by 140 to 1,150 over the same period last year.

This includes 235 young people aged 18 to 24-year-old, a rise 10 over 2017.

In Malvern the jobless figure stands at 550, an increase of 120 with the number of 18 to 24 year-olds out of work at 135, an increase of 20.

A Job Centre Plus spokesperson said they were helping retailer B&M and fast food KFC recruit staff and also pushing apprenticeships.

They had also recently met with HS2 Ltd, the company behind the new high speed rail link, to further develop job prospects.

In addition the centre is running ‘IT for the terrified’ courses to improve people’s job prospects and CSCS training so job hopefuls could be cleared to work on construction sites.
