WORCESTER residents who wish to get out the flags and bunting, join up with friends and neighbours and hold a street party to celebrate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding can now apply for street closures.
The royal couple will be tying the knot on Saturday, May 19 and any application for street closures must be made by Sunday.
There is no charge in Worcester for road closures.
“A street party is a fantastic opportunity for busy neighbours to meet up and for children to play together in a traffic-free area,” said Alice Davey, head of community services at Worcester City Council.
“I’m sure many Worcester residents will want to get together to celebrate Harry and Meghan’s big day.”
Holding street parties to celebrate national occasions is part of a long tradition which started in 1919, when ‘Peace Teas’ were held to mark the signing of the Treaty of Versailles after the First World War.
