A WORCESTER activist and aspiring city councillor has launched surgeries for the city’s women and mums.
Nida Hassan, who is standing for election in the Cathedral ward in May’s city council elections, hopes the surgeries every Tuesday from 2pm to 3pm will attract all city residents but in particular women to discuss their concerns.
The kind-hearted campaigner is bidding to win the swing Cathedral seat for the Conservatives and said the idea for the surgery came from the city’s doorsteps.
“During my canvassing experience I have been told people would like to have more face time to discuss their issues and concerns,” she said.
“Sometimes at the door step it is not a good time and sometimes they are heading out and feel there are issues that need more time.”
As a result, the weekly surgery is being held at Office 1 on Trinity Street next to the children’s play area and is open to residents from across Worcester.
While not a city councillor, Nida hopes the sessions will enable her to guide individuals’ in the right direction or take their issues further to the relevant department.
The 30-year-old said she would also be working to make further appointments should the concern be unresolvable during the surgery.
“Being a woman and a mother I feel I will be able to understand and connect to other women and want to provide a space where they are comfortable to come and talk about their concerns,” she said.
“This will also give me the opportunity as well at this point being a campaigner to understand the issues that matter to the residents.”
