Councillor thanks community for Children's Hospital donations

A CARING Worcester councillor has paid tribute to local people who helped his family raise £3,284 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Coun Jabba Riaz and his wife Sajeeda Begum raised the cash from an event at the Horizon Community Centre on Midland Road.

The couple were inspired to act following the care given to their newborn daughter Zoya who was diagnosed with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, a kidney condition, last January.

She was admitted to the children’s renal unit where she spent the next five months in constant care, before being discharged to outpatient appointments three times a week and she is responding well to treatment.

A total of £1,500 was raised at the event with £674 from online donations, £610 from a collection at Worcester Mosque and £500 from Coun Riaz’s employers Airproducts PLC.

“Sajeeda and I were over whelmed with the response we received and would like to thank all those that participated, donated volunteered and promoted the cause,” he said.

“It shows the tremendous amount of love, goodwill and generosity that the residents of the city and those further afield have for the great work BCH do.
