A MAN has died following a ‘major incident’ on Tolladine Road, close to the Prince of Wales pub.

Emergency services were called to the fire at approximately 2.50pm but on attendance, a man in his seventies was pronounced dead at the scene,

Officers are still working to locate his next of kin. A cordon remains in place outside the building.

Det Insp John Cashion from West Mercia Police said: “Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, but at this stage it is not believed to be suspicious.

“We would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding whilst road closures were in place and emergency services were in attendance.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “An ambulance, on the way to hospital with a patient on board, came across the fire and stopped to render aid.

“Sadly, nothing could be done to save a man and he was confirmed dead on scene.

“Several other people have been assessed by ambulance staff but didn’t require hospital treatment.”
