Worcester police officers in Caribbean to help with Hurricane Irma relief efforts

Worcester Editorial 14th Oct, 2017   0

TWO brave Worcester police officers are part of the British contingent who have travelled to the British Virgin Islands to support recovery efforts following Hurricane Irma.

The officers volunteered to help, knowing the desolation and limited resources they’d be faced with, and flew out to the Caribbean earlier this month to provide support following the hurricane which devastated the British territory.

The Worcester pair, along with three other West Mercia officers, have joined a strong team of 49 officers from 11 forces across the UK.

During their time on the British Virgin Islands the officers will patrol the islands and assist the British Islands Police in policing duties.

West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion, has praised the officers for putting themselves forward to volunteer to provide support for those in need of help on the islands.
