Monitoring traffic in bid to improve bus services

HIGHWAYS chiefs will be carrying out a traffic monitoring probe in Worcester as part of a rollout of improved bus services.

From Monday, October 16 until Friday, October 27 the traffic study will be carried out two to three days each week in Lowesmoor.

The enforcement will limit access to emergency services, cyclists and buses throughout the day westbound into the city, from Lowesmoor to St Nicholas Street, and eastbound, Sansome Street to Lowesmoor.

The traffic monitoring exercise is being carried out at the same time new bus services are being launched by Worcestershire County Council.

Council chiefs hope the new services will see improved journey reliability and journey times, as well as a better experience for bus users.

Coun Alan Amos, cabinet member for Highways, said: “We have been working hard to improve bus services in the county, and this traffic monitoring will help to ensure a better experience for bus passengers.

“One of our priorities is to improve journey reliability and reduce journey times, and we’d like to thank the police, bus operators, taxi businesses and local motorists for supporting these new services.

“We very much hope that the monitoring period will minimise disruption for fellow road users, and that the ultimately improved bus services will lead to higher passenger numbers, meaning fewer unnecessary car journeys and a better environment for motorists, public transport users and pedestrians.”
