YOUNGSTERS now have brand new play equipment to try out after city council chiefs carried out a major revamp of six of Worcester’s play areas.
More than £160,000 has been spent by Worcester City Council on refurbishing play areas at the KGV Playing Fields, Trotshill Lane East, Medway Road, Caisters Avenue and Oaklands, as well as a brand new play area near Oldbury Road.
The new Oldbury Road play area boasts two standard and two toddler swings, a bird’s nest swing, two climbing frame units, various rockers, see-saws and roundabouts.
Council chiefs hope the new and revamped play areas will boost the opportunities for youngsters to play outdoors.
Coun Joy Squires, chair of Worcester City Council’s Environment Committee, said: “This is a brand new play area, enabling children and young people in the area to have outdoor fun, exercise and to play with friends.
“The City Council is fully committed to providing high quality play equipment, right across Worcester.”
Coun Alan Feeney, vice-chairman of the Environment Committee, added: “It’s fantastic to see such a fun new play area opening in St. Johns.
“Children in the area can now play in a safe outdoor environment, right on their doorstep.”
