A WORCESTER cricket club has received a £1,000 donation from a national housebuilder to maintain the upkeep of their facilities and provide more activities for members.
Old Elizabethans, based in Perdiswell Park, have received the cash gift from Persimmon Homes South Midlands as part of their Community Champions scheme.
The club’s junior manager Peter Boyle said the money will have a huge impact as Old Elizabethans rely heavily on fund-raising to pay for maintaining the grounds and providing equipment for players.
“We’re over the moon to have received this donation towards our ongoing activities the club.
“Maintaining the grounds and supporting our players definitely does not come cheap and we have to rely on our own efforts as well as the generosity of local business.
“We have also launched a visually impaired team with links to the new Worcester College so this money will help buy the new equipment.”
He added: “Persimmon’s support for the club means a lot to us and will have a big impact on the upkeep of our facilities and what we offer our players.”
Carol Selway, head of sales for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, explained the Community Champions scheme was set up to support grassroots clubs in the areas they build homes.
“For us to be able to see the money making such a difference is absolutely fantastic.
“I’d advise any charities and clubs looking for up to £1,000 match-funding to apply for money towards anything from running costs to events and equipment.”
