YOUNGSTERS from a Worcester school took part in litter picking and sweeping at Perdiswell Leisure Centre to help them appreciate the new facilities.
More than 20 children from the The River School recently visited the leisure centre as part of a community service scheme, where they cleaned the complex before making a splash in its £10.5million, eight-lane pool.
Headteacher Carol Parry said: “We felt it was important to instil appreciation into the children and wanted them to understand the concerted effort it takes to care for these types of great places.
“We’d like to thank the centre and also local charity, Worcester Duckworth Trust, which provided the children with equipment such as gloves and litter pickers.”
Rob Tyler, Freedom Leisure centre manager, said: “We were very happy to support the school with this request. More than just leisure centre operators, we’re here to serve our communities and engender active lifestyles, so we were delighted the children came to the centre and enjoyed it in such a unique and clever way.
“The school certainly came up with a great approach to encourage its children to be community-focused and we hope they enjoyed their well-deserved swim and were inspired to use, and treasure, the facility in the future.”
