A POPULAR annual community fun day at Diglis Playing Fields has been hailed a success.
The recent Picnic on the Fields event was organised by local volunteers from the Friends of Diglis Fields, to provide a chance to meet new people and share food.
Hundreds of local residents attended the event and this year they celebrated the completion of improvements to the field recently carried out by Worcester City Council.
There was a host of activities and things-to-do including a bouncy castle, ice creams and face painting which attracted lots of youngsters, and Worcester and District Model Engineers ran their popular trains along with a static display of steam-powered engines.
New for this year was a treasure hunt aimed at getting children to explore their local green space.
Coun Simon Geraghty, who donated money from his Divisional Fund to the event running costs, said: “I’m delighted to be able to support the Diglis Community Fun Day with a contribution from the Divisional Fund. The event is a great opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy the much improved Diglis Playing Fields and meet other local residents.”
Francis Lankester, chairman of the Friends of Diglis Fields, said: “All of this help contributed to a wonderful day and helped to keep this a free event.
“We hope to see even more people next year and would love to hear from anyone who might want to be involved in organising next year’s event.”
The group holds regular community events. E-mail [email protected] or visit www.friendsofdiglisfields.weebly.com for more information
