Bikeathon raises £15k for St Richard’s Hospice

HUNDREDS of riders saddled up and used pedal power to raise more than £15,000 for St Richard’s Hospice at a popular cycling event.

Last Sunday 275 cyclists gathered at the hospice’s Worcester HQ to take part in the bikeathon, which sees participants take on either a 16-mile, 45-mile or 64-mile route.

The route took the kind-hearted fund-raisers through the picturesque and sun-drenched south Worcestershire countryside, before finishing back at St Richard’s Hospice.

Riders were presented with a medal upon finishing the challenge and every cyclist was entered into a free draw to win a Gtech electric assisted bike.

The £15,000 raised will help support the hospice which provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones.

Alison Parkes, Fundraiser at St Richard’s, said: “The Bikeathon is a great challenge for anyone who enjoys cycling and we were so pleased to see everyone taking part in the sunshine.

“We are very grateful to everyone who lent their support and volunteered on the day – it was a brilliant event.

“Everyone who took part in the challenge did amazingly well – thank you for riding and raising money for St Richard’s.”
