Caring residents knit together in aid of dementia awareness

RESIDENTS and staff at a Worcester care home picked up their knitting needles to raise awareness of dementia.

To mark Dementia Awareness Week last week, residents and staff at Sanctuary Care’s Juniper House Residential Care Home hand-knitted blue ‘forget-me-not’ flowers to decorate the streets of Malvern.

More than 60 flowers were knitted at the St John’s care home before being donated to Malvern Town Council’s forget-me-not drive to promote the Alzheimer’s Society.

Margaret Hartley, a 74-year-old resident at the home, said: “I really enjoyed knitting the flowers. It was a lot of fun and it’s for such a worthwhile cause.”

Virginia Peachey, Juniper House customer relations manager, said: “It’s been wonderful to see so many residents pick up the knitting needles and come together to support Dementia Awareness Week.

“It’s a fantastic idea and I hope as many people as possible take notice and learn about the dementia friendly services available in their local community.”
