Chance to find out where food comes from

Worcester Editorial 20th May, 2017   0

CHURCH members from across the county are being invited to a Worcester farm to find out where food comes from and the challenges farmers face.

Manor Farm, in Lower Wick, is inviting church members to an event on Tuesday (May 23), where they will be able to find out more about what happens on the farm, before taking part in prayer, reflection and hymns.

The visit coincides with rogation, a time for asking God to bless the land for the coming growing season, when the crops are just starting to come through and the livestock are turned back out into pasture after winter.

Rev David Morris, of the Chaplaincy for Agriculture and Rural Life (CARL), said:

“Traditionally rogation has been a time to walk the fields or the parish boundaries.

“Visiting a farm to reflect and pray for all that goes on there is a great opportunity to thank God for his creation and for all that goes into producing the food that we so often take for granted.”

Chris Bennett, who owns Manor Farm and is also a member of CARL, said: “I’m delighted to host this event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to show people what happens on a working farm and we’ll certainly appreciate the prayers.

“I hope people from across the area can come and join us.”

The event starts at 7pm and refreshments will be provided, including the farm’s famous Bennnett’s ice cream.
