WORCESTER’s Mayor brought the curtain down on his year as the city’s figurehead with the gift of a hand-woven carpet.
Members of Worcester’s Pakistani community presented Coun Paul Denham with an intricate carpet made in Lahore.
Ali Ashgar and his family, who live locally, were some of the last guests to be received in the Mayor’s Parlour by Coun Denham who handed over the chains of office last night (Tuesday).
“This is a wonderful gift to mark the end of my mayoral year, during which I have focused on ensuring that no community is left behind,” he said.
“My highlights from the last 12 months include hosting a Christmas lunch for 80 homeless and disadvantaged people and our free family fun day which introduced magic and bouncy castles to the Guildhall.
“These events involved people who had never set foot in the Guildhall before. I want everyone in Worcester to know that this magnificent building belongs to them,” he added.
