Striding out to raise money for Christian Aid

Correspondent 7th May, 2017   0

A 22-MILE walk from Worcester to Redditch this month is set to support Christian Aid and help forge friendships in the community.

The guided walk along the canal has been developed in partnership with Redditch Ramblers Group on May 20 and will set out from Worcester Cathedral at 8am and aims to arrive at St Stephen’s Church in Redditch at around 5.15pm.

There will be shorter walks as well along the route.

Walkers can meet at the North Porch Door of Worcester Cathedral and people are also invited to join the group at various points en route so that they can all finish together at St Stephen’s for an afternoon tea.

For those wanting a slightly shorter walk, the group will depart the Queen’s Head pub in Bromsgrove at 1.15pm for a medium length walk of 7.5 miles, and a shorter walk of 5.5 miles will leave St Bartholomew’s Church in Tardibigge at around 3pm.

The shortest walk of 2.5 miles will leave St Philip’s Church in Webheath, Redditch at around 4.15pm.

Children under 16 and vulnerable adults must have appropriate adult supervision with them at all times and the walk will go ahead whatever the weather so appropriate clothing and footwear is a must.

Walk leader, John Legge, of St Peter’s Church in Redditch, said: “We want to take in a beautiful stretch of countryside including the canals from Worcester to Redditch to raise funds as part of Christian Aid Week.

“We hope people will join us – no matter what distance they think they can manage. There is something for everyone for this great cause.”

Sue Johnson, from St Peter’s, said: “Christian Aid is passionate about helping people to fight their way out of poverty. Walking is my passion so this is a way of bringing the two together to help people in this country and beyond.”

Walkers and non-walkers are invited to the afternoon tea provided at St Stephen’s Church at the end of the day, with all donations going to Christian Aid.
